DISENGAGE & ENGAGE
The following passage from 1Tim.2:1-4 reveals the role of the saints in politics:
1 Tim. 2:1-4
[1Ti 2:1] I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, [and] giving of thanks, be made for all men;
[1Ti 2:2] For kings, and [for] all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.
[1Ti 2:3] For this [is] good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;
[1Ti 2:4] Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.
God has called His followers in unity to preach the Gospel and not create any political or other variances with any individual or
group(s) of people.
"Those who teach the Bible in our churches and our schools are not at liberty to unite in making apparent their prejudices for or against political men or measures, because by so doing they stir up the minds of others, leading each to advocate his favorite theory. There are among those professing to believe present truth, some who will thus be stirred up to express their sentiments and political preferences, so that division will be brought into the church. CCh 316.1
The Lord would have His people bury political questions. On these themes silence is eloquence. Christ calls upon His followers to come into unity on the pure gospel principles which are plainly revealed in the word of God. We cannot with safety vote for political parties; for we do not know whom we are voting for. We cannot with safety take part in any political scheme. CCh 316.2
Those who are Christians indeed will be branches of the true vine, and will bear the same fruit as the vine. They will act in harmony, in Christian fellowship. They will not wear political badges, but the badge of Christ. CCh 316.3
What are we to do, then?—Let political questions alone. CCh 316.4
There is a large vineyard to be cultivated; but while Christians are to work among unbelievers, they are not to appear like worldlings. They are not to spend their time talking politics or acting politics; for by so doing they give the enemy opportunity to come in and cause variance and discord. CCh 316.5
MORE EMPHASIS ON WHAT EGW SAYS ABOUT POLITICS? "The Lord God would have His people bury POLITICAL QUESTIONS. On these themes SILENCE IS ELOQUENCE. Christ calls upon His followers to come into unity on the pure Gospel principles which are plainly revealed in the Word of God. WE CANNOT WITH SAFETY VOTE FOR POLITICAL PARTIES/POLITICIANS; FOR WE DO NOT REALLY KNOW WHOM WE ARE VOTING FOR. WE CANNOT WITH SAFETY TAKE PART IN ANY POLITICAL SCHEMES. WE CANNOT LABOR TO PLEASE MEN WHO WILL USE THEIR POLITICAL INFLUENCE/POWER TO REPRESS RELIGIOUS LIBERTY, AND TO SET IN OPERATION OPPRESSIVE MEASURES TO LEAD OR COMPEL THEIR FELLOWMEN TO KEEP SUNDAY AS THE SABBATH. The first day of the week is not a day to be revered or to be of reverenced. It is a spurious sabbath, and the members of the Lord's family CANNOT PARTICIPATE WITH THE MEN WHO EXALT SUNDAY AND VIOLATE THE LAW OF GOD BY TRAMPLING UPON HIS TRUE SABBATH. THE PEOPLE OF GOD ARE NOT TO VOTE TO PLACE SUCH MEN IN OFFICE; FOR WHEN THEY DO THIS, THEY ARE PARTAKERS WITH THEM OF THE SINS WHICH THEY COMMIT WHILE IN OFFICE. FE 475.2(EGW).
"There is a large vineyard to be cultivated;but while christians are to work among unbelievers, THEY ARE NOT TO APPEAR LIKE THE WORLDLINGS. THEY ARE NOT TO SPEND THEIR TIME TALKING ABOUT POLITICS OR ACTING AS POLITICIANS; for by so doing, they give the ENEMY opportunity to come in and cause variance and discord. THOSE IN THE MINISTRY WHO DESIRE TO STAND AS POLITICIANS SHOULD HAVE THEIR CREDENTIALS TAKEN FROM THEM. FOR THIS WORK GOD HAS NOT GIVEN TO HIGH OR LOW AMONG HIS PEOPLE." FE 483.1(EGW).
God’s children are to separate themselves from politics, from any alliance with unbelievers. Do not take part in political strife. Separate from the world, and refrain from bringing into your walk in Christ, your family, the church or school ideas that will "lead to contention and disorder." For, God reminds us:
Rom 13:1 admonishes, “Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God”.
[Mat 6:27] Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature?
[Mat 6:34] Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day [is] the evil thereof.
Based upon the preceding and succeeding scriptures, O' saint of God, YOU need to GET OVER IT & quit trying to do God's role in politics as if you could change one cubit of the outcome. Prayer accomplishes God's will.
"And he changeth the times and the seasons: he removeth kings, and setteth up kings: he giveth wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding:” Dan. 2:21
O' saint of God, PUT OFF your fear-mongering of what is and will happen next in the political landscape & world's theater:
That ye PUT OFF concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts; And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.
It's NOW time to trust God:
2 Kings 6:15-18
And when the servant of the man of God was risen early, and gone forth, behold, an host compassed the city both with horses and chariots. And his servant said unto him, Alas, my master! how shall we do? And he answered, Fear not: for they that be with us are more than they that be with them. And Elisha prayed, and said, Lord, I pray thee, open his eyes, that he may see. And the Lord opened the eyes of the young man; and he saw: and, behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire round about Elisha. And when they came down to him, Elisha prayed unto the LORD, and said, Smite this people, I pray thee, with blindness. And he smote them with blindness according to the word of Elisha.
[Philip. 4:6] Be anxious for nothing...
He turneth the wilderness into a standing water, and dry ground into watersprings.
Isaiah 54:17 No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.
1 Peter 5:7
Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
All of the above does not mean to 'bury your head into the sand" and ignore what's occuring in the world's theater and political landscape.
However, you are to DISENGAGE your role as a political activist and to ENGAGE yourself in:
Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be ACCOUNTED WORTHY to escape all these things that shall come to pass, and to stand before the Son of man. Luke 21:36
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!
With these two closing passages, allow God's Spirit to examine your heart:
Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?
